The Hope of Bradley Beach A New Team for Council.

Wendy Ella May has started to put together a team for the November council race and she would like to make it a very diverse ticket. Ms May is the first transgender to run for office in Monmouth County she said I have run before but never had the training to win but thanks in part to other lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) candidates I believe I now have the skills to win. She also said she was hoping to attract a ticket from the LGBT community as there is some very talented people in the gay community in Bradley Beach.

The things that our important to our community as lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community members is the same as the heterosexual community. We all need property tax relief and better schools, health care, liveable wages, and a clean health environment.Our community must have a plan to keep our ocean free of big business and safe as well as clean the beach is a large revenue source for this community, we must also protect the citizens of Bradley Beach from storms like sandy and the best way to do this is with top notch leadership starting with members of the council.

The same thing could be said about our business district and the reasons people from other town shop here. We need to work very closely with the chamber, local business owners and the landlords to help bring together the right types of businesses and to help keep our main street alive. The public works department does a great job keeping Riley Park as a positive first class park, but now we need to work on the rest of main street , as you know the chamber has been working on a garden beautification project which is helping to make Main Street in Bradley Beach look alive.

The Mayor is working with many different elected officials to find ways to low the cost of running the borough and the new council will have to support his work. I think the mayor is doing a good job but I can see how the need for teamwork is a must the present council members do not all work together and this blocks the progress the borough can make.

Under its Risk MAP Program, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is providing quality flood hazard information to help communities plan for and reduce the risk from flooding. As part of that effort, FEMA Region II has initiated a coastal flood study to update the information shown on the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for 14 coastal New Jersey counties and New York City. The FIRM shows each community's flood hazards and is a requirement for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).  The FIRM is used to determine who must buy flood insurance and where floodplain development regulations apply.

 

This website, which is updated as progress on the coastal flood study continues, will include links to the online preliminary FIRM panels (once completed), and details on public meetings to review those preliminary results. We encourage you to explore this website to learn more - be sure to check back regularly for updates, or sign up for our Twitter feed.  In the meantime, there are steps that you can take now to keep your communities and families safe from flood risk:

Jane was quoted in the Coaster by Ed SALVAS my old radio friend from the good old days at WJLK in Asbury Park Ms DeNoble says she’s still unpacking in her new home but once she expressed an interest in becoming involved in the beautification effort, her realtor, Brenda Connolly, suggested she call the Chamber of Commerce and that call to Executive Director Shirley Ayers opened the door to her new community. Connolly also happens to be president of the chamber and Ms DeNoble attended her first meeting of the chamber’s Main Street Beautification Committee and was immediately welcomed.

DeNoble said she was looking for a home along the shore and wasn’t too familiar with Bradley Beach but immediately liked what the town had to offer.

“I can walk to anything,” she says and can ride a bicycle to Main Street or to the beach, “And it’s not on a barrier island.”

As for her work with the Beautification Committee just walk down main street and you can tell where she and her small group have been. If you like to help just stop her or call the Bradley Beach Chamber at 732-869-1020

Childhood obesity is a societal epidemic! Whats for diner tonight?

       Childhood obesity is a societal epidemic, of which, in most cases, it will be prevented by better eating habits, exercising, and parental control. Collectively, we must consider this to be a crisis and make it a priority to educate those in control of how children are taught to care for their bodies, which are the parents.
       Statistically, children are affected far more than most would know. “With approximately one out of three children in America considered overweight or obese, it is clear that childhood obesity has reached epidemic proportions” (“Bariatric physicians do not support state intervention for childhood obesity,” 2011, para. 2). Furthermore, if programed to eat unhealthy as a child, they will carry that through to adulthood.
       Additionally, the economic burden placed on healthcare systems is alarming. More and more doctor’s visits to pediatricians are leading to health concern conversations that are attributed to their patients being overweight. The healthcare systems are afflicted with greater use than ever before because of illnesses that could be avoided if obesity was not their topic of concern (Trasande & Elbel, 2013).
Offering to partner with other local groups, to host a "Get Fit" rally which could help to inform and educate both the parents and the children of our community on how to live a healthier lifestyle.

Hello I am Wendy Ella May a transgender woman and advocate and today this letter to the editor will be speaking on the widespread discrimination, harassment and violence that my transgender brothers and sisters face every day in the United States, Trans genders have ample reason to fear hate attacks that could lead to serious injury, if not death. A recent report by the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs found that 50 percent of LGBT murders in 2009 and 44 percent of LGBT murders in 2010 were of transgender women. Staff (2012)  The Trans Murder Monitoring project reports that from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2011, there have been 816 reports of people who died from anti-transgender violence in 55 countries. It should be noted that this number is probably much lower than the actual figure, as it only represents known cases due to issues of language used in reporting the murders (different countries have different terms for being transgender or gender non-conforming) and due to the fact that not all transgender people who are murdered are identified as trans. Staff (2012)  This year, does not seem to be a safer year for transgender people either: We need your support to stop the crimes, call police and get involved in your community.
