Passing of Catherine "Cappy" Harvey AGE: 81 • Bradley Beach
Catherine
Harvey, 81, a lifelong resident of Bradley Beach, died peacefully after
a brief stay at Manor by the Sea on Thursday, May 2, 2013. She was born
Nov. 1, 1931 in New York City and was the daughter of Stanley and
Bessie (nee McNeely) Harvey. Her grandfather founded the McNeely Real
Estate agency in Bradley Beach in 1902. She was a graduate of
Manhattanville College. For many years, she taught elementary grades in
the Neptune City school system and is fondly remembered by several
generations of students.
It was a career she loved and one that allowed her to spend her summer
days at the beach. She was a member of several bridge clubs over the
years, was a fan of tag sales, and loved to visit museums in Manhattan.
She was an active volunteer including at the Bradley public library.
She is survived by her brother, R. Peter Harvey (Sheila) of Glastonbury, CT; six nieces and nephews, Peter, Anne, Kate, John, Michael, and Sheila; grandnieces and grandnephews, Conor, Brenna, Kiley, Emmaline and Aidan; many friends, and her caretaker, Melinda.
She was a communicant of the Church of the Ascension in Bradley Beach and a mass of Christian burial will be held there at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, with a viewing in the church before the mass. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar.
