Town-by-town evacuation orders for Monmouth, Ocean counties
Officials across the area are asking residents not to call 911 or police for information but to use media and watch for announcements from the governor's office.
Monmouth County
The county has set up shelters at the following locations:Holmdel: Holmdel High School, 36 Crawfords Corner Road.
Wall: Wall High School, 1630 18th Avenue.
Note: Earlier plans to use Monmouth Mall and the Brookdale campus have been changed, and people should not seek shelter there.
Freehold Township: (For Sunday Only) An emergency overflow pet shelter for county residents who cannot find shelter for their pets has been established at the old county juvenile detention center at 119 Dutch Lane Road in the township. Contact Victor "Buddy" Amato, chief law enforcement officer for the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at 732-312-7153 or Terry Clark, of the Associated Humane Society, at 732-922-0100.
The following towns have issued orders or warnings for mandatory or voluntary evacuations:
Asbury Park: Urging voluntary evacuations.
Belmar: Urging voluntary evacuations by Friday night. Mayor Matthew Doherty enouraging residents who can leave to do so because it will be better than “sitting in the dark” when expected power outages occur. Belmar beaches are closed Saturday and Sunday and the water level in the borough's lakes have been lowered, in part to cope with the expected storm surge.
Bradley Beach: Urging voluntary evacuations.
Eatontown: Voluntary evacuations.
Hazlet: Urging voluntary evacuations to residents in low-lying areas, mobile homes and flood-prone areas.
Keansburg: All residents are being ordered out of the borough beginning at 3 p.m.
Keyport: Urging voluntary evacuations.
Lake Como: Urging voluntary evacuations.
Manaquan: The borough will have a mandatory evacuation of the beachfront area effective Saturday morning at 6 a.m. The evacuation is for everyone east of Potter Avenue and the NJ Transit railroad tracks. The evacuation also includes Deep Creek Drive and the Glimmer Glass Circle.
Middletown: Mayor Anthony P. Fiore declared a state of emergency at 10 a.m. Friday in advance of Hurricane Irene. Residents living in coastal and low-lying areas are urged to evacuate voluntarily, especially those who have experienced flooding before.

Monmouth Beach: Mandatory evacuation was a part of a declaration of emergency that took effect at noon Friday. Evacuation has a deadline of 8 p.m. Saturday. Officials are advising residents with pets to arrange to have them boarded with friends or in facilties away from the oceanfront with its significant storm surge expected.
Neptune: Urging voluntary evacuations.
Sea Bright: Mandatory evacuation to begin at 4 p.m. with a deadline of 4 p.m. tomorrow. Residents should go to shelters being set up.
Sea Girt: Voluntary evacuations are strongly encouraged for anyone living in the following areas: East of Second Street, south of Washington Boulevard, and low-lying areas along Wreck Pond. Also encouraged are voluntary evacuations of the elderly, residents with health issues, and anyone who feels they may not be able to sustain themselves for 3-5 days without electrical power. Voluntary evacuations should be completed by noon Saturday.
Spring Lake: Mandatory evacuations for all residents on all streets from Monmouth Avenue and south to the Sea Girt border; all streets from Pitney Avenue and north to the Lake Como border; and all Ocean Avenue residents. All residents living in these areas must evacuate by noon Saturday. Mayor Jennifer Naughton has declared a state of emergency.
West Long Branch: Voluntary evacuations.
Ocean County
The county has set up shelters at the following locations:Evacuation shelters opened at 8 a.m. Friday at:
Stafford: Southern Regional High School, 600 North Main St. (Route 9). Shelter is pet-friendly.
Toms River: Toms River High School North, 1245 Old Freehold Road. Shelter is pet-friendly.
Pets must be in a carrier clearly marked with its name and owner and note if the animal has any health issues. Bring food and water for the animals especially if on a special diet.
The following towns have issued evacuation orders or warnings:
Barnegat: A mandatory evacuation order was issued Thursday for the following areas of Barnegat: Pinewood Estates Mobile Home Park, Brighton at Barnegat Mobile Home Park, anyone on the bayfront east of Ridgeway on Bayshore and anyone east of Powell Lane on East Bay Avenue.

Barnegat Light: Everyone is ordered off the barrier island as part of a mandatory evacuation.
Bay Head: Encouraging a voluntary evacuation of all residents and guests.
Beach Haven: Everyone is ordered off the barrier island as part of a mandatory evacuation.
Berkeley: Mandatory evacuation for everyone on the barrier island communities of South Seaside Park and Pelican Island. All residents should be out by 9 p.m. Friday. There will be limited access on the bridge for residents only, and no access as of noon Saturday. Voluntary evacuations for other township residents.
Brick: Strongly encouraging residents of the barrier island to evacuate by midday on Friday. Residents of low-lying neighborhoods and areas that are prone to flooding are also encouraged to evacuate well in advance of the storm.
Harvey Cedars: Everyone is ordered off the barrier island as part of a mandatory evacuation.
Jackson: Mayor Michael Reina declared a township state of emergency on Thursday. A Red Cross Shelter will be made available at the Jackson Liberty High School located at 125 North Hope Chapel Road. It will be opened at 2 p.m. for displaced residents. You should bring a blanket and pillow for your comfort, enough medication for 3 to 5 days and items to occupy your time, he said.
Lacey: Voluntary evacuation for residents east of Route 9. The Lacey United Methodist Church has opened its doors as a shelter to people who need to evacuate from low-lying areas near Barnegat Bay. The church is open to all and located at 203 Lacey Road in the Forked River section of the township. Evacuees should bring food and bedding.
Lavallette: Voluntary evacuations are in effect.
Little Egg Harbor: Encouraging voluntary evacuations for residents in low areas of the township and the elderly.
Long Beach Island: Everyone is being ordered off the barrier island as part of a mandatory evacuation.
Long Beach Township: Everyone is being ordered off the barrier island as part of a mandatory evacuation.

Ocean Gate: Encouraging voluntary evacuations.
Point Pleasant Beach: All non-residents are being ordered out of the borough under a mandatory evacuation order. Anyone in low-lying and flood-prone areas and especially the barrier islands, who can leave, it is recommended that you do leave voluntarily until the area is cleared from the storm.
Ship Bottom: Mandatory evacuation ordering everyone off the barrier island as part of a mandatory evacuation.
Stafford: Mandatory evacuation for the following areas: Beach Haven West, Bayside, Cedar Bonnet Island, Cedar Run Dock Road, Mallard Island, Perry’s Lake, Pinecrest Village, Manahawkin Trailer Park, Village Harbour and West Bay Village. Surf City: Mandatory evacuation ordering everyone off the barrier island as part of a mandatory evacuation.
Toms River: Mandatory evacuation of everyone on the barrier island communities of Ortley Beach, Ocean Beach Units, Chadwick Beach, Normandy Beach and Pelican Island beginning Friday at 4 p.m. All resident are to be evacuated by midnight.
