Hurricane Information
The Monmouth County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is the lead agency in the county with regard to preparedness and response to Hurricane Irene. This web page will be updated with the most current information about the storm and the emergency response. Storm update:
As of Aug. 26, 2011 - 10 a.m. – Hurricane Irene is predicted to begin impacting Monmouth County mid-day Saturday, Aug. 27 and continue through Sunday, Aug. 28.
- The Board of Chosen Freeholders has issued a state of emergency for Monmouth County. This action allows the OEM to mobilize all county resources and direct them where they are needed to protect life and property. The actions can also include ordering mandatory evacuations and controlling traffic on all roadways.
- At this time, residents living in coastal and low-lying areas are urged to evacuate voluntarily, especially those who have experienced flooding before.
- OEM is continuing to coordinate and mobilize resources throughout the county. The county Department of Public Works and Engineering is continuing its work to clear catch basins of debris and deploy traffic cones and barriers in preparation of road closures.
