Asbury Park residents urged to evacuate by noon Saturday Well whats good for Asbury Park works for me!

ASBURY PARK — Mayor Ed Johnson Thursday urged residents here to evacuate to an inland location before noon Saturday and to get that plan going now as Hurricane Irene approaches.
“We’ve been watching very closely and have not seen a scenario that doesn’t require immediate preparation,” the mayor said.
Johnson said if people have an inland location they can go to, they should do so at their earliest opportunity.
He said the city will announce later today a local site where people can come to if they need transportation to the emergency shelters being set up by Monmouth County.
The mayor said the county is opening up sites at Monmouth Mall, the Brookdale campus in Middletown and Wall High School to be emergency shelters during the hurricane.
“What we understand is Red Cross operations will be there starting tonight,’’ Johnson said.
“We are asking people to be very cautious and serious and not play with this storm,’’ the mayor said. “Do not go down to see the hurricane at the beach. Don’t get in the way of emergency personnel. We’re asking people to stay inside, preferably at safe locations inland.’’
If people have special needs or are isolated or otherwise need assistance, the city is using the regular police dispatch number for now, 732 -774-1300.
