Its been 6 years since she went home! The Badge lady of Second Ave. Beach 63 years at a part time job.

This post is about my Grandmother Mrs Helen Blackwood McCall Malchow. To many my grandmother was the Bradley Beach Badge Lady she started a part time job on the beach in the early days of beach badges she worked as a towel girl at the famous Salt Water Pool at Lareine Ave. Bathhouse. Then for the next 62 years she sold beach badges 6 days a week. She told me one day a story about how many of her Jewish families would give her money on Thursday due to the fact they could not use money after sundown on Friday and all day Saturday to sunset. They did this so if the had friends over for the weekend they could get their beach badges or food which was paid for. Grandmother Helen was also like a mother to many of the young lifeguards at second ave. beach some of them went on to be great leaders in our community. When my grandmother stopped working at the beach she was missed by many and she missed many. Well its been 6 years this past July 5th since she went home we miss you Nana. Rest In Peace
